DURC Updates

We've updated our gallery with some photos from the recent colours match.

Some of our shooters also travelled to the Isle of Man to participate in the Easter Shoot over the weekend. Congratulations to everyone who went over, there were 15 matches shot by just of our shooters over the 2 days. Emily Bowe took home the gold medal for the Junior AR Competition, a great achievement for Emily and for DURC. Conor McDermottroe also won the blind pairs competition with Erika Lawrence. Results can be seen here and there has also been plenty of photos from the trip added to the gallery.

The results from the Air Rifle Nationals are also available now in our results section or click here. There was a good turnout from DURC with a number of medals being brought home. Congratulations to Aisling Miller who won the bronze medal in the Ladies AR40, Emily Bowe who won the bronze medal in the Junior Competition, Michael Cullinan who won the gold medal in Class B, Diyu Wu who won the bronze medal in Class B and Marina Bogue who won the silver medal for Class D.

Aisling Miller awarded Pinks

DURC shooter Aisling Miller was recently awarded University pinks for her sporting prowess. Aisling is primarily an air rifle shooter, and has shot internationally, representing Ireland in InterShoot at the Hague and the European Championships in Helsinki. She will also take part in the London World cup in April which is a test event for the Olympic games later in the year.

Aisling is currently pursuing a Phd in Microbiology but has been a member of the rifle club since she was an undergraduate. Last year she was club captain and she continues to play an integral role in the running of the club despite the huge time commitment she must make to her training. She has received coaching with the national squad for the past 15 months, under the guidance of Matt Fox and Geoff Cooney.

Aisling has been ranked in Class A of the NTSA Classification list for some time now and is the highest ranked female air rifle shooter in the country. Her recent results in the European Championships means she is now eligible for a Tripartite Commission Olympic Quota Place (a wild card) for the London games. As well as her air rifle success she is also a talented smallbore shooter and was formerly ranked in class A before turning her attention to air rifle.

The presentation of the Pinks took place at the annual Sports Commons on the 28th of March in the Dining Hall. Cyril Smyth, DUCAC Chairperson was keen to lavish praise on Aisling drawing particular attention to her chances of competing in the London games.

Aisling’s performance on the international stage shows just what DURC shooters can accomplish with the right coaching team behind them. Hopefully we will see more similarly gifted sports people in the coming years.

Recent DURC News

We've updated our committee page so you can check out who's going to be taking care of Rifle Club affairs for the year.

Great seeing so many new shooters coming down to give Air Rifle a try. We hope you're prepared to try out some Smallbore .22 shooting in the coming weeks. Don't forget you get free ammo for your first shoot on each discipline so there's nothing stopping you from coming down to try it out!

Interested in the squad? Keep on coming down to shoot, we value enthusiasm and offer some great opportunities if you get picked. You'll get a dedicated squad night, free ammo, training from a qualified shooting coach and a chance to shoot in the highly competitive Colours competition against UCD. This is always a trip to remember, some great shooting takes place and is followed by a night of drinking and banter. You don't have to sign up for anything just yet, just keep on coming down, maybe express some interest and you'll be hearing from us when we need to know who's interested.

Although this website is lovely and colourful, we can also keep you updated with our weekly happenings through our Facebook page. If you have any questions just post it up and one of our members will be happy to answer. Head to http://www.facebook.com/groups/durifleclub
